Leg Lameness

Leg lameness is a common condition in pets and can range from a subtle limp to complete inability to bear weight on a limb. It may develop suddenly after an injury, or gradually due to underlying conditions such as arthritis, joint disease, ligament damage, or developmental disorders like hip dysplasia. In other cases, lameness may stem from infections, soft-tissue strain, nerve damage, or even bone or joint abnormalities. Because pets often hide pain or adapt their gait, mild limping or stiffness is sometimes overlooked — however, any change in movement, posture, or willingness to walk, jump, or exercise is a sign that your pet may be experiencing discomfort. Even if symptoms come and go, lameness is never “normal,” and early assessment is key to preventing long-term mobility issues and chronic pain.
At Pawtnered Care, we take a comprehensive approach to evaluating and managing leg lameness. Our assessment may include a physical orthopedic exam, gait evaluation, palpation of joints and muscles, and if needed, advanced diagnostics such as imaging or lab work to identify the root cause. Once the source of pain is identified, we create a tailored treatment plan that may include rest, anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, lifestyle changes, or surgical referral if required. With proper diagnosis and intervention, many cases of lameness can significantly improve or be fully resolved, helping your pet regain comfort, confidence, and healthy mobility. If your pet is limping, slowing down, or showing signs of leg discomfort, we are here to support their recovery with compassionate, expert care right at your doorstep.
