Upper Respiratory Infections
Upper respiratory infections (URIs) affect the nose, throat and sinus area of pets and can cause
significant discomfort. Whether it’s a dog with a honking cough after boarding, or a cat with
sneezing and nasal discharge, these infections often stem from airborne viruses or bacteria and
can spread among animals.
significant discomfort. Whether it’s a dog with a honking cough after boarding, or a cat with
sneezing and nasal discharge, these infections often stem from airborne viruses or bacteria and
can spread among animals.
In our clinic, when a pet presents with symptoms like nasal congestion, discharge from eyes or nose, coughing, reduced appetite or lethargy, we assess carefully. We evaluate their immune status, exposure (kennels, shelters, boarding), and determine which diagnostics are needed if necessary (swabs, radiographs, PCR).
Treatment may involve supportive care (keeping the pet comfortable, maintaining hydration and appetite), targeted medications (antibiotics if bacterial infection suspected) and isolation or hygiene measures to prevent spread. For young, elderly or immune-compromised pets, early intervention is especially important. We work to restore your pet’s normal breathing, appetite and activity with attentive care.
